The Truth About Alcohol And Your Liver | Herbal Goodness

March 15, 2015

Your liver is one of the most important organs in your body. It is responsible for over 500 different roles.

Some of the things your liver does include: -
  • Stores vitamins and iron
  • Converts sugar into usable sugar when your body needs it most
  • Produces bile which aid in the digestion of fat
  • Breaks down insulin, hemoglobin and other hormones
  • Helps clean the blood to extract harmful substances
  • Destroys old red blood cells your body no longer needs

When liver cells are damaged, they are replaced by scar tissue. This can lead to a variety of health ailments that have to do with the liver. All of these are very serious that can be hard to treat without proper assistance. Of course, there are many ways to help your body faster so you don’t have this problem. One would be to look into cleansing your liver and consciously taking care of it.

Foods that could help in liver health include papayas, beets, carrots, grapefruit, tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, walnuts, avocados, apples, Brussel sprouts, garlic, green leafy vegetables, green tea, asparagus, olive oil, alternative grains, and other various fruits and vegetables.

In addition, too much alcohol can also weaken your immune system, leaving you vulnerable. It can weaken your system for even up to 24 hours after consuming the alcohol. When you drink most days of the week, you are more at risk for different ailments.

Some ideas to cut down on alcohol: -

  • Drinking more water
  • Taking a break from alcohol altogether
  • Buying low alcohol drinks
  • Eating more food before you drink

There is no standard rate for alcohol since everyone can react differently to alcohol. Your height, gender, and weight also matter when it comes to how alcohol impacts your body and your liver. Generally, men should not go above a pint and a half of beer every day and women above a pint of beer. Always keep track of how much you have been drinking when you do decide to have some alcohol. Foods like fast food, bad fats, and artificial sweeteners are all damaging to the liver and its purpose as well as alcohol. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is important to keep your liver as healthy as you can.

If you start early enough, you can help your liver get back to its full functioning possibilities. Drinking within the guidelines and taking breaks from alcohol can greatly increase your chances of staying healthy. Make sure you eat well and exercise regularly to help your body perform at its best.

A healthy life also includes healthy organs and a functioning system. With simple steps, you can take the path of a better life.
